Perched in Bronte, NSW, Peachy Keen is a reimagined early-1900s family home designed for a busy household of five. Led by architect Kat Prowse and interior designer Claire Richardson, co-founders of Revel Design, the project transforms a once patchwork-renovated house into a home that feels playful, practical and deeply personal.

From the start, this wasn’t about creating something picture-perfect. It was about creating a space that works effortlessly for everyday life - sandy feet, kids racing through the house, and regular entertaining included.

The story began with a throw

Some projects start with a floor plan. This one started with a feeling.

At the first meeting, the clients brought along a well-loved throw blanket and told the Revel team “This is how we want our home to feel.”

With its playful pink and blue tones and cozy texture, the throw became the project’s design anchor, setting the tone for a home built on warmth, fun, personality and tactility.

Reworking a heritage home for modern family life

The home had strong bones, but decades of inconsistent renovations had left the layout disconnected and cramped. Revel’s approach was to honour the existing character, while reshaping the interiors for contemporary living.

The result is best described as contemporary coastal with a nod to heritage, including subtle tributes to the original architecture, like the reinterpretation of the home’s triangular architraves through balcony fretwork.

Major spatial moves included reworking the floor plan for better flow and connection, moving the staircase, opening the living areas and adding a mudroom to make coming and going simple for a beachside family.

Choosing finishes: joy + durability

Every material choice came back to two key questions: Will it bring joy? And will it stand up to family life?

That’s why the home layers robust stone floors with soft rattan, playful colour with handmade-feeling joinery details, and durable finishes that can handle daily wear while still feeling special. Revel also leaned towards sustainable and Australian-made selections where possible.

Nood Co. in Peachy Keen

Bathrooms were the perfect place for colour to really sing and this project features Nood Co. basins across multiple spaces, each chosen to amplify the home’s joyful palette.

Claire shares that colour is central to how they design bathrooms and Nood Co. offered a way to introduce it in a bold but refined way:
“Bringing colour into the basin itself added an element of surprise that reflects the family’s character and the light-hearted spirit of the house.”

For Claire, one standout space is the ground floor bathroom, where the palette becomes its most expressive: peach-toned walls paired with the Mill Basin in Blush Pink. The result is playful, uplifting, and designed to make you smile the moment you step inside.

For Kat, the draw is concrete itself - tactile, earthy and honest; “Nood Co’s basins in particular bring something extra: their softly saturated colours create a real design statement, without ever overpowering a space.”

That balance, blending in and standing out, is exactly what makes them work so well within a layered, character-filled family home like Peachy Keen.
