AMMOS - Kayla Itsines' Tranquil Home by Hong Henwood Design & Karen Leech Architects

In the serene heart of Adelaide's inner south, a century-old gentleman's bungalow has undergone a remarkable transformation, guided by a vision of elegance and serenity. Nestled away from the bustling global stage, the bungalow's renovation stands as a testament to the artistry of interior designer Hong Henwood and the architectural brilliance of Karen Leech Architects.

The journey of rejuvenation began in 2017 when the bungalow found its new owner, high-profile personal trainer Kayla Itsines. Her aim was to create a space that exuded warmth and sophistication, a place where visitors would instantly feel at ease.

"I want someone to walk into my house and feel like they can sit on the couch," she explains. "That was the first thing; it was a feeling. And then I was like, 'I need light and bright but not a dentistry.' I want warm. I want you to feel like you're walking into a luxury boutique hotel in every single room."

The transformation was a meticulous endeavor, starting with the removal of the dark jarrah floors and the painted exposed paneling overhead. In their place emerged custom blonde timber floors and a palette of earthy concrete tones, filling each room with an ambiance of opulence and radiance. The bungalow's high ceilings, an unexpected delight given its modest stone entry, were further bathed in natural light with the introduction of skylights.
